The 'Future' Issue

Habitus #64 Welcome to the HABITUS ‘Future’ and ‘Habitus House of the Year’ Issue. We are thrilled to have interior designer of excellence, Brahman Perera, as Guest Editor and to celebrate his Sri Lankan heritage through an interview with Palinda Kannangara and his extraordinary Ek Onkar project – divine! Thinking about the future, we look at the technology shaping our approach to sustainability and the ways traditional materials are enjoying a new-found place in the spotlight. Profiles on Yvonne Todd, Amy Lawrance, and Kallie Blauhorn are rounded out with projects from Studio ZAWA, SJB, Spirit Level, STUDIOLIVE, Park + Associates and a Lake House made in just 40 days by the wonderful Wutopia Lab, plus the short list for the Habitus House of the Year!

Arthur Galan AG 2010

Take the best of the 80s and mix it with a dash of now and you’ve got
the Autumn/Winter 2010 collection from Arthur Galan AG.

The latest from fashion label Arthur Galan AG landed in the habitusliving.com inbox this week – in the form of a great selection of coats – and we thought it was something worth sharing.

Australian fashion designer Arthur Galan is best known for his sophisticated menswear and elegant-yet-edgy womenswear, with a focus on quality tailoring and fabrics. In the Autumn/Winter Collection 2010, Arthur Galan AG invites us to try on a familiar aesthetic with 80s inspired designs – described as “a sophisticated adaptation” of “80s glam”.

The staple Winter greys and blacks are interspersed with jolts of bright colour, such as the Schiaparelli pink military coat ($698), while leather, fur and feathers are on show in key pieces within the range.

Coats are definitely a standout within the Autumn/Winter Collection 2010, with everything from the classic men’s trench coat ($598) to the women’s Contrast Pipe Coat – an absolute winner in black and ivory ($598). The range includes beautiful fine knits and chunky woolen jumpers combined with zips – seeing a comeback across several pieces.

Galan’s eponymous label has been around since 1998, but there’s obviously a strong appreciation for the 80s in this latest collection – something to keep you warm in the winter months.

Produced in his own manufacturing facility, Galan’s clothing is available across his 7 menswear and 6 womenswear stores, as well as David Jones and dedicated stockists in Singapore, New Zealand and Hong Kong.
