Kitchen & Bathroom Issue

Kitchens and bathrooms are, arguably, the most consequential rooms in the home — and almost always the first to be considered. Whether approached through renovation or new build, their design has the power to recalibrate how a home is lived in and experienced. For this issue, our guest editor, Mardi Doherty, principal of Studio Doherty, explores what it truly means to transform these pivotal spaces — and why thoughtful design in kitchens and bathrooms delivers dividends far beyond the purely functional. Her insights both as an architect and as her own client give an open and honest account of the thinking behind creating a home.

Not everything has gone oversized this year at Foscarini with Rodolfo Dordoni introducing a perfectly scaled Table lamp to his handblown Bud collection. First released in 2007, the Buds collection is produced using an artisanal process.

Five different layers (crystal, colour, white, paliesco and crystal again) are overlapped as the glass is mouth-blown, making each piece unique. The colour of the shade changes depending on whether it’s switched off or on. Muted tones are reflected in the off position, with warm, soft light pouring out when Buds is on.

The new Table lamp features a blown glass diffuser supported by a transparent, full-bodied plastic. The base has been carefully crafted to achieve the clear effect and enhance the shade. Buds Table comes in three different shapes, each with a given colour; brown, grey and bamboo green. There is also a white option.
