The Life Outside Issue

Introducing the Life Outside issue of Habitus magazine. With life increasingly being absorbed into a digital space, there is never a more important moment to hold something tangible. In this context, the power of nature to have a physiological impact on our sense of wellbeing has never been more important. So how can we cultivate the benefits of the our natural environment in the most intimate of places – our homes? This was the question that helped to bring this issue of Habitus to life.

Art you can sit on: Edra On The Rocks

The Italian brand’s creation combines comfort and creativity in one striking piece.

The very best furniture pieces are those that resemble art, creations that bring something unexpected, sophisticated, and beautiful to enrich an interior space. Like couture of the interior world, our favourite furniture finds are ones that make creativity manifest, as art you can sit on, eat at, or even sleep in.

Italian brand Edra has been making exquisite furniture since the 80’s, and are known across the globe for their quality, materiality, craftsmanship, and artistic flair. From their origin in the Tuscan hills in 1987, Edra has grown to an iconic design name, offering clever and unique interior products influenced by an Italian design sensibility.

Designed by the brand’s long-time collaborator, Francesco Binfaré, the sofa – On the Rocksis an artistic statement that reimagines cloud-like comfort into a striking structure. Reminiscent of the cubist movement, On the Rocks has wide, monolithic bases that are connected by sweeping backrests that can be moulded to suit a variety of configurations.

On the Rocks has been designed to complement different room sizes, aesthetics and personal needs. The lack of stiff and set elements means the sofa can be assembled and reassembled into different sculptural forms, left as free standing sections, or made double-sided to frame perspectives and shape the experience of any room.

Whatever form it takes, Binfaré has ensured comfort remains paramount thanks to the use of  Edra’s patented Gellyfoam®. Combining softness with support, Gellyfoam® allows sofas to be built without a spring base, meaning the material moulds around the body of the user. Inside the sofa, a ballasted backrest and hidden backbone ensure maximum stability, creating a soft and supported seating experience.

On the Rocks is part of an iconic sofa collection pioneered by Edra. From the classic woven nest of the Boa, to the architectural Tatlin, and the customisable Standard, Edra’s aesthetic is deeply rooted in art and creative expression. But while the designs may be recognisable world-wide for their artistic form, their covetable status is cemented by their performance, comfort and timeless appeal. Produced with the knowledge that comes from many years of reflection, study and technological research, Edra embeds innovation into each of their product concepts, with patents like Gellyfoam® and the Smart Cushion helping to pioneer new levels of comfort, flexibility and personalisation.

Edra is available through the Asia Pacific at Space, who share the Italian brand’s commitment to exceptional design, forward-thinking innovation and pieces that are so beautiful, they can only be described as art.
