Designer Outdoors

As summer approaches, the design hunt moves outside.

As days become longer, and the weather warmer, Design Hunters™ begin to think of ways to surround themselves with design during the summer months.

Design-filled spaces outside can be just as interesting as those inside – and some of the world’s leading brands are responding with covetable new outdoor ranges.

Summer is the season to entertain, and many of these new collections bring the indoors outside, with classic dining settings in a range of sophisticated forms, materials and colours. Simple forms in durable, weatherproof materials are the key to successful outdoor design.

Since its introduction in 1950, plastic has been the material of choice for many designers of exterior furniture and accessories, allowing freedom of form and colour. Italian brand, Serralunga, is a company that has traditionally encouraged designers, such as Ross Lovegrove and Zaha Hadid, to explore the possibilities of form in plastic. The playful lighting and furniture that make up their current collection continues to push design boundaries.

But form isn’t the only way to bring a sense of playfulness outside. Experimenting with colour or monochromatic shades can also make a bold statement in outdoor spaces. Kartell, another Italian company, is the world’s leading manufacturer of design classics constructed from plastic, and is known for using bright colour.

An extensive range of designer outdoor furniture and accessories from some of the world’s leading brands, including Kartell, Serralunga, Moooi, Driade and B&B Italia is available from Space Furniture.
