The Life Outside Issue

Introducing the Life Outside issue of Habitus magazine. With life increasingly being absorbed into a digital space, there is never a more important moment to hold something tangible. In this context, the power of nature to have a physiological impact on our sense of wellbeing has never been more important. So how can we cultivate the benefits of the our natural environment in the most intimate of places – our homes? This was the question that helped to bring this issue of Habitus to life.

Habitus Loves… Putting things away

We’re more than happy to clean up after ourselves with such amazing storage solutions like these. Presenting 8 of our favourite ways to put things away.

Fragmented 01

Designed by:
Lanzavecchia + Wai

Why we love it: These beautiful nesting ‘cabinets’ are brightly coloured and a real departure from the traditional idea of storage. We adore the little curtains on each of the 3 shelves.

Spiral Cellars

title

Designed by: Spiral Cellars

Why we love it: We couldn’t go without mentioning a little wine storage, and this one is a doozey! The spiral cellar is built into the ground and can store up to 1900 bottles of wine. Pretty clever.

Container Sideboard

title

Designed by: Alain Giles

Why we love it: This seemingly chaotic cluster of boxes is given unity in clean white, softened by the natural timber base and legs. Finishes and materials differentiate the various structural elements.

Where you can get it:

Casamania

Showtime Credenza

Designed by: Jaime Hayon

Why we love it: In typical Hayon style, this credenza is full of character and delightfully playful. We love how simple the storage is, while the interchangeable legs offer an ‘out-there’ touch.

Where you can get it:

KE-ZU

Cabana

title

Designed by:
Humberto & Fernando Campana for Edra

Why we love it: Okay, so maybe not practical for every home, but this very special, very playful piece from Edra is a great way to make a feature of your storage and is bound to arouse curiosity in house guests!

Where you can get it:

Stack

Designed by: Raw-Edges/ Shay Alkalay

Why we love it: Apart from its beehive-like appearance when closed, to see this cabinet in action is a thing of beauty. The draws run seamlessly and smoothly and can be accessed from either side. It feels like it shouldn’t quite work, but it does! Comes in different colours too.

Where you can get it:

Living Edge

Wave

title

Designed by: Gordon Guillaumier for Matteograssi

Why we love it: These cabinets are a picture of understated elegance. The fronts are covered with beautiful coach hide leather, with a ‘wave-like’ structure creating handles and casting different shadows depending on lighting.

Where you can get it:

Classique

The Barnyard Method

title

Designed by:
KARTON

Why we love it: These cardboard sheep – they come in 3 sizes ‘Ram’, ‘Ewe’ and ‘Lamb’ – are pretty darn cute. They’ll hold books, DVDs, CDs, anything you can think of really. Another great little Aussie invention!
