The Life Outside Issue

Introducing the Life Outside issue of Habitus magazine. With life increasingly being absorbed into a digital space, there is never a more important moment to hold something tangible. In this context, the power of nature to have a physiological impact on our sense of wellbeing has never been more important. So how can we cultivate the benefits of the our natural environment in the most intimate of places – our homes? This was the question that helped to bring this issue of Habitus to life.

Habitus Loves… Small Stools

They can be just about the least pretentious thing in design, and a whole lot of fun (especially good for releasing the inner child) – introducing 8 small stools we love.

Unidentifiable Fat Objects

Designed by:
Studio juju

Why we love it: These stool are like little button mushrooms, with so much character they feel alive. Much love for their stumpy little legs and fat seats.

Where you can get it:

Elfin

title

 Designed by: Ross Didier

Why we love it: We’re not sure if it’s the name, but there’s something quite whimsical about this design. It’s as though it’s sprouting from the earth at the bottom of the garden.

Where you can get it:

Corporate Culture

Eames Walnut Stools

title

 Designed by:Ray Eames

Why we love it: Like giant chess pieces, these stools are made from solid walnut and would be as much at home in the living room as in a child’s playroom.

Where you can get it:

Living Edge

Bolle

title

Designed by:
Nathan Yong for Living Divani

Why we love it: The flying-saucer-like cushioned seat of this stool defies gravity upon the 3 slender legs. Comes in a range of colours.

Where you can get it:

Launch Stool

title

 Designed by:Ben McCarthy

Why we love it: We love the space-like nature of this stool by Hong Kong-based designer, Ben McCarthy. He describes it as being like an animal getting ready to pounce or a ‘space module ready to launch’.

Where you can get it:

Workshopped

Sign Stool

title

 Designed by:Trent Jansen

Why we love it: Aside from Trent Jansen being one of our favourite young designers, this stool is a heap of fun, and sustainable to boot! Made from recycled road signs each one is unique.

Ned

title

 Designed by:Darcy Clarke

Why we love it: This stool uses the a simple form of a cut round of timber as it’s mould, bringing light weight and versatility to an organic form. Colourful and fun.

Where you can get it:

Stone

Designed by: Anon Pairot for FeelGood Designs

Why we love it: This stool by Thai Designer Anon Pairot was inspired by natural rock formations, but in timber, with a glossy finish it is anything but cold. We love its simplicity and refined form.
