Introducing the Life Outside issue of Habitus magazine. With life increasingly being absorbed into a digital space, there is never a more important moment to hold something tangible. In this context, the power of nature to have a physiological impact on our sense of wellbeing has never been more important. So how can we cultivate the benefits of the our natural environment in the most intimate of places – our homes? This was the question that helped to bring this issue of Habitus to life.

Artists @ Work

Why we love it: Chairbiz puts 10 artists to work at Saturday in Design, as part of their highly successful initiative, Artists @ Work. All artworks are sold at auction, with proceeds going directly back to the artists. During the day visitors to Chairbiz and Artist @ Work are encouraged to vote for their favourite work, with the People’s Choice winner going to a lucky door prize recipient.

Launch Pad Finalist Exhibition

Why we love it: An important design initiative promoting the support and development of Australian product design through a unique, interactive program of events, Launch Pad provides the local and international design community with a vital avenue to nurture and celebrate original, authentic and innovative emerging Australian design. An exhibition of the finalist prototypes will be on display as part of Saturday in Design.

TURN it, SPIN it and MOULD it

 

Designed by: Christina Waterson, How We Create, Palamont, CNC Metal Spinners, Evostyle

Why we love it: TURN it: See Wood Worker/Designer Coco Reynolds and Designer Jonathon Logan as they work with Evostyle to wood turn a special gift for you.

SPIN it: See an original style metal spinning machine from CNC Metal Spinners in action.

MOULD it: The hardworking ‘MAKE it’ crew from Palamont will make and give away the winning Design a Cup entry, manufacturing it before your eyes.

 ’Then x Ten’ Exhibition

Why we love it: Combining a retrospective of the brand’s most classic posters with modern interpretations by ten of the world’s leading image-makers the collection of works, curated by Herman Miller’s creative director Steve Frykholm, celebrates Herman Miller’s rich and varied history.

Why we love it: To celebrate 10 years of Saturday in Design, The Project goes back to the people, asking key members of the Australian design community to shape The Project brief. The result is: 

ACTIVATE ENVIRONMENTS: create the fourth dimension, bring forms and space to life, take action and revive, invigorate and awaken.

And with over 20 collaborations taking place at Saturday in Design, The Project promises to be better than ever!

 ’Meet the Editors’ at Habitus Lounge

Why we love it: Giving visitors a chance to experience the design hunter aesthetic and philosophy in the flesh with a curated selection of furniture from Cosh Living, the Habitus Lounge will provide a space in which to relax, explore the showroom and revisit your favourite Habitus stories.

Furthermore, from 3-4 pm on Saturday the Habitus Lounge will host ‘meet the editors’, an invite-only event where guests can interact with the personalities behind the brand and learn a little about the inner workings of the magazine.

 Whisky Den

Why we love it: A pop-up whisky bar inspired by the soft glow of fresh snowfall on a dark Nordic night, the Whisky Den will transform a raw loading dock into an experiential realm of warmth and texture. Venture in to discover a circular bar, lush reindeer hide sculptures, and golden spherical lighting installations

SID Wine Down

  

Designed by: Spoonbill

Why we love it: Spoonbill will be playing host to our Saturday in Design visitors as they wind down to the end of what is sure to be a fun filled designers day out! Relax and share adventures from the day, whilst enjoying delicious complimentary canapés and $8 glasses of Wine between 6pm & 7pm.
