Kitchen & Bathroom Issue

Kitchens and bathrooms are, arguably, the most consequential rooms in the home — and almost always the first to be considered. Whether approached through renovation or new build, their design has the power to recalibrate how a home is lived in and experienced. For this issue, our guest editor, Mardi Doherty, principal of Studio Doherty, explores what it truly means to transform these pivotal spaces — and why thoughtful design in kitchens and bathrooms delivers dividends far beyond the purely functional. Her insights both as an architect and as her own client give an open and honest account of the thinking behind creating a home.

Kawara Armchair

By SeehoSu

Designed by Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec, the Kawara Armchair combines the high-quality details of Japanese craftsmanship with European design. It has been crafted from moulded plywood, a material chosen not only for its strength and structural stability but also for its aesthetic qualities.

Inspired by Sori Yanagi’s iconic Butterfly stool, the armchair features a three-dimensionally contoured backrest and armrest, which gently hold the user when seated. It has been meticulously crafted using three different moulds for the backrest, armrest and seat, ensuring no need for unadorned reinforcement.

The chair is available in four different finishes natural, matte black, green or grey and is available upholstered in a range of fabrics selected by Koyori.
