Kitchen & Bathroom Issue

Kitchens and bathrooms are, arguably, the most consequential rooms in the home — and almost always the first to be considered. Whether approached through renovation or new build, their design has the power to recalibrate how a home is lived in and experienced. For this issue, our guest editor, Mardi Doherty, principal of Studio Doherty, explores what it truly means to transform these pivotal spaces — and why thoughtful design in kitchens and bathrooms delivers dividends far beyond the purely functional. Her insights both as an architect and as her own client give an open and honest account of the thinking behind creating a home.

Performance Plus with Zip HydroTap

This kitchen, designed by Darren James from Darren James Interiors, was created for clients who love entertaining and spend most of their time outdoors.

The kitchen opens out to an alfresco area which overlooks the stunning infinity edge pool and cabana which allows the owners to easily segue between indoors and out.
As much as the clients wanted a kitchen that would be the central showpiece of the home, they equally wanted a kitchen that could perform under pressure, particularly during the busy entertaining months.

As such, choice of appliances was carefully considered with two Miele ovens, a steam oven and coffee machine, plus two Liebherr fridges and a Zip HydroTap installed adjacent to the Oliveri sink.

“The Zip HydroTap, which delivers instant filtered boiling water on demand, is an essential part of this kitchen’s success,” says designer Darren James. “It was chosen specifically to meet the high demands of this busy family while providing them with an energy- and waterefficient solution”.

The colour scheme of the kitchen was chosen specifically to reflect the natural surrounding landscape as well as match the overall theme of the home. Natural textures are reflected in the timber and stone inclusions while the bronzed mirror splashback absorbs the adjacent bush landscape and invites this lush beauty inside.

Zip HydroTap Boiling Chilled is now available with an additional Sparkling water option to deliver your favourite chilled sparkling water at the touch of a button. For more information on the range of Zip HydroTaps for your next kitchen visit www.zipindustries.com and request a brochure.
