Kitchen & Bathroom Issue

Kitchens and bathrooms are, arguably, the most consequential rooms in the home — and almost always the first to be considered. Whether approached through renovation or new build, their design has the power to recalibrate how a home is lived in and experienced. For this issue, our guest editor, Mardi Doherty, principal of Studio Doherty, explores what it truly means to transform these pivotal spaces — and why thoughtful design in kitchens and bathrooms delivers dividends far beyond the purely functional. Her insights both as an architect and as her own client give an open and honest account of the thinking behind creating a home.

San Francisco design brand Palecek is now available in Australia thanks to Boyd Blue, continuing their legacy of furniture driven by detail and distinction.

For 20 years Boyd Blue has always offered Australian design lovers with an eclectic collection of handcrafted and bespoke, furniture, lighting, rugs and artwork, showing the best from around the world in bespoke collections specifically for our shores and our aesthetics. With the addition of the San Francisco design expertise of Palecek, this offering is stronger than ever.

As of September 2019, the carefully considered design of Palecek is officially available at Boyd Blue. The Palecek style is defined by the use of organic materials and an attention to instilling their pieces with timeless details. Collectively they share an appreciation for impeccable craftsmanship, traditional artisan techniques and artfully curated spaces.  Featuring striking pieces in neutral colours crafted from largely natural materials, the San Francisco design brand is a perfect fit for Boyd Blue’s collections.

“Palecek’s dedication to authentic craftsmanship and artistic collaboration is very in-line with our love for time-honoured traditions and artisan techniques,” says Boyd Blue Founder and Creative Director Shelley Boyd, “The collection is warm, richly textured natural materials at feels at home among our existing collections.”

Available now, Palecek’s 19/20 collection introduces a bespoke mix of striking pieces, impeccably designed and constructed from an array of natural materials including fossilised clam shells, seagrass, abaca rope and coco bead.

Recently, Palecek collaborated with US designer Jeffrey Alan Marks. Jeffrey’s designs are characterised by a relaxed yet refined approach; rugged yet sophisticated, and influenced by the lifestyle displayed in picturesque Californian coastal towns.

In his design, natural woven ropes are reimagined in a fresh White Sand finish, celebrating the possibilities of the overlooked material. These designs celebrate a collected, assembled-over-time, artfully curated style.

Boyd Blue represents a selection of exclusive Australian and internationally renowned brands, including Arteriors, Boyd, Hamilton Conte and Skyline Design, their collections are unique in the way they layer the refined with the quirky and the imperfect. With the addition of Palecek, their catered design collection has never looked better.
