Living in the Environment Issue

Issue 62 is the first issue of the year and always a great time to put our best foot forward. With Adam Goodrum, the loveliest man in design, as Guest Editor, we draw on his insights as a furniture designer, artist and educator to look at the makers shaping our design world. Sustainability has never been more important, and increasingly this is a consideration from the start with projects designed to address their immediate environment as well as the longevity of the planet. From the coldest winters to the most tropical of summers, addressing how we live in the environment is crucial to creating the perfect home.

Smartville Sofa

Born out of a collaboration with the design teams from smart & BoConcept, the smartville sofa is part of the smartville furniture collection, a collection designed to take the speed and pace of the city into the home.

No compromises are made in the development of designs to urban life. As the world’s big cities continue to grow one major challenge in urban living is the limitation in space. BoConcept and smart deliver intelligent solutions that save space, but never compromise on look and quality. The challenge of limited parking space is solved by the clever city car that requires very little space, and multifunctional pieces of furniture help to optimise limited living space.  Both companies’ customers look for customized solutions to express their personal style.

The smartville sofa is quite masculine with its volume and boxy shape, but the wavy surface and soft edges and corners turn it into a casual, welcoming sofa. The design teams have transferred the yellow  stitching from the smart car seat, and made it available for the brown leather version and the soft grey version of the smartville sofa – a funky detail that adds personality and emphasises the curvy lines even more. The sofa is like all other BoConcept sofas: completely modular so customers can create their own individual sofa from a choice of modules, fabrics and leathers, with the basic module being exactly as long as a smart fortwo – 2.69 meters.
