Kitchen & Bathroom Issue

Habitus 63 is arguably the most aspirational issue of the year with Kitchens & Bathrooms to dream about. Whether a family hub, an entertainer’s paradise or somewhere to grad a quick meal, how we live in and spend time in the kitchen is a very personal question that requires thought and an abundance of resources. Always the aspirational eye candy of design, we have some truly lovely kitchens from Greg Natale, YSG, Splinter Society, Sally Caroline and Studio Johnston. Bathrooms are just as important with Greg Natale, Studio Tate, YSG and Those Architects sharing some fabulous insights

An Inner Melbourne home immune to ageing

Australia

Nest Architects has designed a renovation for an Inner Melbourne home on Harold Street, fusing mid 20th century charm and modern aesthetics.

“We really wanted the extension to this very typical inner-urban house in Melbourne to be timeless. No tricks, no gimmicks, just a great renovation that will never grow old” says Nest Architects on the Harold Street project.

“As a result we used simple materials that never seem to go out of fashion, white painted bricks, timber floorboards and a beautiful timber lined ceiling. The joinery and kitchen were designed in the same vain and as such do try and overwhelm the clients with endless detail. They simply sit in the spaces and become a backdrop to the clients’ everyday lives.”

Whilst the look of the new aspects of the house have a slightly 1970’s feel about it due to the very heavy brick corners, project architect Emilio Fuscaldo and design architect Imogen Pullar have combined this with a modern aesthetic in the finishes, give the house a timeless feel.

The architects say that “the heaviness of the rear facade is broken down slightly through the use of timber lining boards” These serve as a natural linkage between the house and its backyard.
