Kitchen & Bathroom Issue

Kitchens and bathrooms are, arguably, the most consequential rooms in the home — and almost always the first to be considered. Whether approached through renovation or new build, their design has the power to recalibrate how a home is lived in and experienced. For this issue, our guest editor, Mardi Doherty, principal of Studio Doherty, explores what it truly means to transform these pivotal spaces — and why thoughtful design in kitchens and bathrooms delivers dividends far beyond the purely functional. Her insights both as an architect and as her own client give an open and honest account of the thinking behind creating a home.

Art Month Sydney 2011

Australia

Art Month Sydney is back again in 2011, bringing Sydney’s Art out of the
shadows and inviting the art-inspired to join in the fun.

Art Month Sydney is an annual event not to be missed. For the full duration of March 2011, Sydney’s artistic newcomers and enthusiasts will visit 80 participating venues to view a thriving contemporary visual arts scene in action.

Art Month 2010

Each week in March, Art Month Sydney will hold a magnifying glass up to different Arts Precincts around Sydney, where a range of exhibitions, talks, artist studio visits, instillations and tours will take place. There will even be a children’s adventure trail available for budding artistic youngsters.

Art Month 2010 – Artist speed dating

Art Month will also hold a Creative Conversations talk series at the National Art School Cell Block Theatre in Darlinghurst. Here, renowned arts commentator Stephen Fenely will speak to a number of contemporary artists about the dynamic relationship between visual artist and practitioners in other creative fields.

In addition, there will be a series of speeches exploring the nature of the contemporary art scene and the best ways for experts, curators, gallerists and collectors to create their own collection of modern artworks.
