Metalab brings in some good luck with the work of Natalia Milosz-Piekarska and Karla Way.

The latest exhibition at Sydney-based metalab explores the unique nature and history of amulets and talismans.

Natalia Milosz-Piekarska and Karla Way must have broken a few mirrors in their time, because their new exhibition at metalab in Sydney is all about producing a little good luck.

Their pair’s exploration of amuletic and talismanic objects and jewellery are the culmination of a lot of research into the perceived power of these object to bring their owner/wearer good luck.

The show is centred on instruments of divination and “the deflection of ill fortune”. Karla’s work focuses on vessels and jewellery, which represent animal, botanical and geological forms, while objects commonly associated with deflecting bad luck, such as garlic, inspire Natalia’s pieces.

“Natalia and Karla create works that are obscure yet familiar. The pieces presented provoke and capture the imagination, inviting you to enquire, engage and treasure,” says metalab’s Nina Cueva.

So if you’re feeling like lady luck isn’t coming your way right now, it might be worth trekking over to metalab for a shot of good luck.

The exhibition is open now until 31 March 2011.
