The 'Future' Issue

Habitus #64 Welcome to the HABITUS ‘Future’ and ‘Habitus House of the Year’ Issue. We are thrilled to have interior designer of excellence, Brahman Perera, as Guest Editor and to celebrate his Sri Lankan heritage through an interview with Palinda Kannangara and his extraordinary Ek Onkar project – divine! Thinking about the future, we look at the technology shaping our approach to sustainability and the ways traditional materials are enjoying a new-found place in the spotlight. Profiles on Yvonne Todd, Amy Lawrance, and Kallie Blauhorn are rounded out with projects from Studio ZAWA, SJB, Spirit Level, STUDIOLIVE, Park + Associates and a Lake House made in just 40 days by the wonderful Wutopia Lab, plus the short list for the Habitus House of the Year!

This apartment is a showcase of its owner’s hobbies

Singapore

The owners of this Sengkang apartment are avid cyclists who also make a living selling cycling gear. Their home is similarly committed to their passions.

Cabinetry finishes and furnishings in dusky tones evoke a cosy vibe in this three-bedroom apartment. The eye is immediately drawn to the lighted aquarium (the owners also have a passion for aquascaping) and the bicycle showcase.

The mini aquarium is incorporated into the full-height storage cabinets by the apartment entrance. By integrating the tank into the design, not only is space saved but maintenance has also been simplified.

A common bedroom has been transformed into a showcase space for the owners’ bicycle. Glass windows and a striking yellow shelf allow the display to be shown off prominently and be admired even from the living area, turning this prized possession into a centrepiece.

The dusky palette seen in the communal space extends to the private zones as well. To create an atmosphere for rest, the bedrooms feature concealed lighting fixtures such as behind the headboard to radiate a calming ambience.
