The 'Future' Issue

Lost and Found Hotel Room 2011

Australia

The Lost & Found Hotel Room offers the kind of holistic Melbourne
experience that leaves you feeling like a true Melbourne cultural-ite.
Alice Blackwood stops by for a visit.

Last year it was situated in a cosy upper-level apartment looking out to the architectural facades of surrounding high-rises. You could lounge back on Melbourne-designed cushions, flip the record on a local artist, and admire the view through floor-to-ceiling windows… while sipping locally sourced tea from Victorian crafted cups.

This year, the Lost & Found Hotel Room takes on a much larger warehouse-style studio, and feels more sociable and interactive in its experiential offering. It’s on the second floor above the lovable tailor-barber-shoemaker café, Captains of Industry, and has enough room to house a full dinner party – if you so wish.

Melbourne architects Six Degrees have designed the room this year, with a really enviable mix of locally produced and sourced furniture and fittings. Taking centre place is a circular marble table with bronze legs by Daniel Barbera; furnishings from connoisseurs of vintage furniture, Grandfather’s Axe; Tom Dixon lighting from DeDeCe; kooky Established & Sons accessories from Living Edge; floor rugs from ffiXXed, and the list goes on!

It’s a large space to work with, but Six Degrees have broken it up into inviting zones, the bedroom becoming a curtained-in annex in the centre of the space, the lounge a congregation of seating, and Tom Dixon lights creating glowing focal points around the space.

It’s the ultimate Melbourne pad, and even has its own Cultural Concierge on hand to escort you to a popular laneway haunt, or offer insider tips on what to do around town.

Any subscriber to Lost & Found can apply to stay at the Lost & Found Hotel Room free of charge for up to three nights from 1 May to 31 July 2011. Visit the website for more information.

The Lost and Found Hotel Room is a collaboration between Six Degrees and designer of the Lost & Found e-guide, Jonathan Zawada, with Right Angle Studio and Tourism Victoria.
