Kitchen & Bathroom Issue

Kitchens and bathrooms are, arguably, the most consequential rooms in the home — and almost always the first to be considered. Whether approached through renovation or new build, their design has the power to recalibrate how a home is lived in and experienced. For this issue, our guest editor, Mardi Doherty, principal of Studio Doherty, explores what it truly means to transform these pivotal spaces — and why thoughtful design in kitchens and bathrooms delivers dividends far beyond the purely functional. Her insights both as an architect and as her own client give an open and honest account of the thinking behind creating a home.

State of Design 2011

Australia

Get ready for another huge year for design at the renowned State of Design Festival from 20 – 31 July.

It’s one of our favourite events of the year; Australia’s biggest celebration of design, the State of Design Festival, will take over metropolitan Melbourne and regional Victoria with hundreds of events over 12 days next month.

State of Design Festival is the ultimate destination for design innovators, thinkers and admirers and now attracts over 150,000 visitors.

The 2011 Festival will unravel the theme Design That Moves as they survey design in, on and around transport, hospitality and education projects that move.

Everyone can participate in ‘Design For Everyone’, where individuals, organisations and businesses host exhibitions, workshops, screenings and activities that anyone can take part in.

Why not be inspired by DESIGN:MADE:TRADE, showcasing leading furniture, fashion and industrial design brands; or hear talks from international design thinkers from the fields of architecture, fashion, design systems, education, graphic design and transformation design as part of the Design For Business program.

Be part of Australia’s most innovative design event and the heart of design thinking and design activity each year.

Visit stateofdesign.com.au and sign up for the e-newsletter to receive regular updates as the program is released.
