The 'Future' Issue

Habitus #64 Welcome to the HABITUS ‘Future’ and ‘Habitus House of the Year’ Issue. We are thrilled to have interior designer of excellence, Brahman Perera, as Guest Editor and to celebrate his Sri Lankan heritage through an interview with Palinda Kannangara and his extraordinary Ek Onkar project – divine! Thinking about the future, we look at the technology shaping our approach to sustainability and the ways traditional materials are enjoying a new-found place in the spotlight. Profiles on Yvonne Todd, Amy Lawrance, and Kallie Blauhorn are rounded out with projects from Studio ZAWA, SJB, Spirit Level, STUDIOLIVE, Park + Associates and a Lake House made in just 40 days by the wonderful Wutopia Lab, plus the short list for the Habitus House of the Year!

Tanjong Beach Club

Singapore

Last week saw the opening of Singapore’s latest hotspot.

Tanjong Beach Club on Sentosa Island is described as an “all-day, activity-filled beach destination”.

Part bar, part restaurant and part beachside resort, the Tanjong Beach Club (abbreviated to TBC) promotes itself as ‘open to all’, providing a range of experiences to suit everyone, from evening cocktails overlooking the sea to cooling off in the pool or relaxing on the beach.

TBC, the only venue on the beach, is a collaboration between The Lo & Behold Group (of White Rabbit, Loof and Overeasy fame) and Australian brothers Christian and Julian Tan.

Working in finance and marketing, the Tan brothers found themselves spending a lot of time on Tanjong Beach – and obviously that time was put to good use, dreaming up this new venue.

We just love the proportions of this 6-metre-high white-rendered building, open to the beachscape and hugged by the lush forest behind.

Takenouchi Webb – known for their work in hotel and restaurant design across the Region – have again teamed up with Lo & Behold to design the TBC, with a distinctive Singaporean style, while exploring a clean modernist look.

The Club’s restaurant will open fully in August, but in the meantime they’ll be serving bar snacks and light café meals along with their selection of ‘bespoke’ cocktails.

If you’re not able to get to Sentosa to visit TBC, check back with us next week for some more photos hot off the press.
