Kitchen & Bathroom Issue

Habitus 63 is arguably the most aspirational issue of the year with Kitchens & Bathrooms to dream about. Whether a family hub, an entertainer’s paradise or somewhere to grad a quick meal, how we live in and spend time in the kitchen is a very personal question that requires thought and an abundance of resources. Always the aspirational eye candy of design, we have some truly lovely kitchens from Greg Natale, YSG, Splinter Society, Sally Caroline and Studio Johnston. Bathrooms are just as important with Greg Natale, Studio Tate, YSG and Those Architects sharing some fabulous insights

A mountain retreat designed to take you away to another world with
relaxation, breathtaking scenery and revitalising cuisine.

Sitting proudly above Bhutan’s Paro Valley, the Uma Paro resort offers a world of relaxation, taking advantage of the clean mountain air and unique landscape.

A world away from modern city life, the resort’s 20 rooms and 9 villas set on 38 hilltop hectares, are a fusion of traditional craftsmanship and modern design.

Signapore-based architect Cheong Yew Kwan and interior designer Kathryn Kng have sensitively produced an expression of the surrounding Bhutan architecture and cultural context.

Local artists and craftspeople have been employed to decorate furniture, walls and other detailing, while the main building – once the home of a Bhutanese nobleman – retains its original features.

There is little doubt this resort is for relaxation, with a gamut of spas, pools, bath houses, body therapies and complimentary Yoga sessions to help escape modern life (as if a Himalayan mountain retreat wasn’t enough).

Described as an ‘integral part of the Uma Paro experience’ the food also embodies healthy eating – the Bukhari restaurant offering a menu of traditional Bhutanese cuisine – with rice and wild mushrooms picked from the resort’s doorstep.

Part of the COMO resorts group, Uma Paro also adheres to the highest
standards of hospitality, with trained hotel staff and quality finishes.

Each room also has phone, satellite TV and DVD player – not that you’ll want to acknowledge there’s a world outside Uma Paro – while the villas include everything from balconies to separate sitting, dining and study areas – perhaps a place to write that long-awaited novel?
