Nestled on Byng Street in the heart of Orange, Yallungah Boutique Hotel tastefully weaves together over a century of heritage with contemporary relaxed luxury. This architectural treasure, originally built as the Yallungah homestead in 1896 by architect William Lamrock, has been thoughtfully transformed into a 22-room boutique destination that celebrates both its storied past and Orange’s newfound reputation as a premier food and wine region of New South Wales.
Now owned by the Travellers Group, the hotel’s impeccable restoration preserves the building’s distinctive character – from its slate roof and detailed timber joinery to the buff brickwork that defines the neighbourhood’s identity. Yet step inside, and you’ll discover a seamless blend of historical charm and modern, relaxed sophistication that creates an atmosphere both lively and intimate.
The property hosts a range of room types from the thoughtfully refurbished historical suites in the original Yallungah house through to the contemporary guest suites and rooms in the new section of the hotel.

Staying in the Executive Suite on the top floor of the contemporary extension exemplified this perfect balance. At 43 square metres, the space felt more like a serviced apartment than a hotel room, with generous proportions. The room itself was divided into three – a bedroom with living area complete with desk and television, bathroom and a wardrobe area adjacent to a well-appointed kitchenette. The thoughtfully stocked mini-bar showcased local Orange wines alongside indulgent treats like rockyroad – perfect for unwinding after a day exploring.

The suite’s standout feature was undoubtedly the bathroom – a spacious, beautifully clean sanctuary with abundant natural light, a walk-in shower, dual basins, and a gloriously deep bathtub that, while taking time to fill, provided the ultimate relaxation after a day of touring the wineries that surround Orange. Moreover, the wardrobe cleverly separated sleeping and bathing areas while providing ample storage space for luggage, making it ideal for longer stays.

In addition to the super comfortable bedding, what truly impressed was the room’s acoustic privacy – despite the hotel’s central location and lively atmosphere, the soundproofing ensured complete tranquillity. Windows opened to welcome fresh, cool country air and views of neighbouring properties adorned with spectacular autumnal foliage, create a serene backdrop that felt worlds away from city life.

The hotel’s common spaces enhance the experience beautifully. The elegantly appointed dining room serves as both breakfast venue and private event space, while the guest lounge spans the building’s length, offering comfortable seating beside a modern fireplace – ideal for afternoon reading or connecting with friends or fellow travellers. The numbered car parking adjacent to the hotel makes check-in effortlessly smooth, a thoughtful touch for weekend getaways.

Led by General Managers Chris and Donna Cochrane, the hotel staff strike the perfect balance between attentive, friendly service and respectful space. They’re genuinely welcoming, happy to arrange bespoke itineraries including wine tastings and restaurant bookings, yet once you’re settled, they allow you to enjoy your stay in peace.
