Vintage Modern Issue

The breadth and scope of Habitus has always been extraordinary. With how we live at heart of every issue, we have stepped it up with Guest Editor David Flack of Flack Studio shaking the ‘how’ and looking at new ways to make a house a home. With Vintage Modern as the issues theme, we look at the way iconic design has stayed with us, how daring pieces from the past can add the wow factor and how architecture and good design defy the pigeon hole of their era.

Greg Natale

Greg Natale is a man of many talents. Whether through interior design or products and accessories, his impact on design can be seen and felt world-wide.

Greg Natale is a powerhouse in the design world, known for interior projects lauded across Australia and beyond, with clients that include a roster of distinguished names.

Establishing his studio in 2001, Natale has created a formidable body of work that stands proud on the global design stage. Known for his expertly layered and eclectic style and use of materiality, pattern, colour and geometry, each project from the studio of Greg Natale make an impact and in the process, garner awards.

However, not content with a multitude of projects on the books, Natale felt the need to extend his interior and graphic language to furnishings and home décor. In 2017, Natale extended his talents to designing luxury homewares and lifestyle products that since proven to be wildly successful.

These products epitomise the Greg Natale ethos, where utilitarian objects become a sophisticated and desirable statement piece. The in-studio collections include soft accessories and luxury bedding to various decorative objets d’art, all in a variety of high-quality materials and detailed finishes, available in the Greg Natale online shop.

In 2019, Natale opened his first retail outlet in Potts Point, Sydney. This flagship store invites the public to experience, see, touch, and purchase a curated selection of products.

For furniture, floor and wall coverings, Natale has collaborated with brands like Designer Rugs, Bisazza, Signature Prints, Kaolin Tiles and Covet House, offering a variety of products that promote the name of Greg Natale to a disparate audience.

This year has been a busy one for Natale. Alongside a multitude of interior projects on the drawing board, Natale has designed three new product collections. One wonders if this man ever sleeps!

In 2024, Natale unveiled the ALTRO MONDO collection in collaboration with Art Hide. ALTRO MONDO, is a range of hide rugs that draws inspiration from the avant-garde spirit of Italy’s discotheques of the 1970s through to the 1990s. Translating to “Other World” in Italian, ALTRO MONDO represents a distinct vision that includes eight original designs.

Città, a collection of terrazzo floor and wall tiles was also launched with Nstone and features geometric motifs inspired by the proportions of Greco-Roman architecture. With 12 tiles and a colour palette of grey and sand tones, there is something for every application – whether a poolside garden, patio or grand entrance.

Lastly but certainly not least, Natale release a new bedding range. The Signature Bedding Collection comprises three patterns of repeated graphic motifs that have been retrieved from the Greg Natale archives. Within the collection are Astoria and Scala, two recognisable designs that have been translated to a larger scale for bedding and Steps, the reimagination of a Florence Broadhurst design that Natale first debuted in 2000, winning the designer Belle Magazine’s first ever Wild Card Award.

With a mass product ranges to his name, Natale is a design force who simply continues to beautify our homes. All credit to Greg Natale for his impeccable vision and amazing drive to conquer – not only interior design but everything else that makes a house a more beautiful home.
