Living in the Environment Issue

Issue 62 is the first issue of the year and always a great time to put our best foot forward. With Adam Goodrum, the loveliest man in design, as Guest Editor, we draw on his insights as a furniture designer, artist and educator to look at the makers shaping our design world. Sustainability has never been more important, and increasingly this is a consideration from the start with projects designed to address their immediate environment as well as the longevity of the planet. From the coldest winters to the most tropical of summers, addressing how we live in the environment is crucial to creating the perfect home.

A Superb Shortlist And There’s More…

The INDE.Awards 2021 presents a shortlist that showcases truly great design. However, this year along with the INDE.Awards, comes the inaugural INDE.Summit, a fully digital one-day conference, that will bring together the best minds in the Asia-Pacific region to explore the most important aspects of design that face practitioners today.

As each of the category shortlists in the INDE.Awards 2021 have been revealed, we are privileged to see architecture and design at its very best. Within the 14 categories, the shortlisted projects and objects, practices and people are connected by a unifying thread – the outstanding creativity and innovation that abounds within our Indo-Pacific region. Whether perusing The Object or The Building, The Living Space or The Shopping Space, each project in this year’s shortlist is a worthy inclusion for its style and substance; While The Design Studio showcases practices of note in our region and The Luminary and The Prodigy present extraordinary practitioners both established and emerging.

As much as the INDE.Awards is about notable practitioners and the most significant projects within the region, it is our connection and sharing of knowledge that defines the INDE.Awards. In recognition of this, 2021 is the year of the inaugural INDE.Summit where we will bring together the most respected architects and designers to share and learn at this significant event.

The INDE.Summit, as the focal point for regional dialogue, is a full day, virtual conference with four sessions that begins the morning of the 5th August and concludes before the INDE.Awards gala that evening. The fully digital INDE.Summit will present the opportunity to delve deeply into the issues that affect practitioners today through the theme of Develop Undevelop – what this means and how it affects practitioners, countries and the Indo-Pacific as a whole.

As the region’s most celebrated minds discuss and reflect on such issues as Culture, Place and Identity, Housing, Models of Finance for Sustainable Development and Commercial Design, there is the chance to explore the realities of these subjects, the challenges and the benefits and to learn from those who are an integral voice within our region. Through the INDE.Summit there is opportunity to connect and communicate and gain knowledge from the leaders in the architecture and design profession.

Continuing excellence in design, the INDE.Summit will provide a day like no other and we look forward to seeing you at both the INDE.Summit and then later at the INDE.Awards.
