The ever-popular Flack Studio was recently in Sydney to throw quite a party at Mobilia’s sparkling new showroom. More accurately, that’s parties, plural. The launch of David Flack’s book was celebrated at a busy lunch event, followed by an evening party the next day – namely, ‘A Shared Lunch’ and ‘This is a Party Sydney’.
Mobilia’s showroom, full of colour, texture and art, is located in Alexandria. With its series of distinct rooms and outdoor space, it was the ideal setting for the pair of large gatherings.

The new monograph itself, published by Rizzoli, presents the first comprehensive survey of the work of Australian designer David Flack and his Melbourne-based multidisciplinary practice. With a foreword by Amy Astley and text by Evan Roberts and Ian Roberts, accompanied by photography by Anson Smart, the book traces the evolution of the studio since its founding in 2014 and highlights its growing international reach.

Flack Studio rose to global prominence in 2021 following the publication of pop star Troye Sivan’s Melbourne home, a richly layered interior that introduced a wider audience to the practice’s distinct approach. This project features in the book alongside a selection of residential and commercial interiors across Australia, Los Angeles, Seoul and the Ace Hotel in Sydney.

Across these projects, the studio’s defining characteristics are consistently evident: bold use of colour, expressive materiality, bespoke furniture and lighting, as well as a strong engagement with contemporary art and local makers. Furniture, textiles and fittings are treated as integral design elements, contributing to interiors that balance classical references with a contemporary sensibility.
