Natural by design with Royal Oak Floors new collections

Beautiful, enduring and healthy: Royal Oak Floors’ latest timber collections are crafted for the next generation of design-led spaces.

There’s a reason why timber floors have endured as a mainstay of residential design. Warm in character and gentle underfoot, timber flooring is timeless and inviting. According to Kim Harper, the founder of Royal Oak Floors, “Like life, oak’s imperfections make it beautiful. It takes a lifetime for an oak to grow, but its harvest will provide generations with the foundations for a life well lived.”

With subtle variations in tone and grain, timber floors are beautiful to live with every day. Timber has always been a biophilic choice – connecting interiors with the natural world – and Royal Oak Floors is taking that one step further with the launch of its new Heritage and Natural Collections. Crafted from FSC®-certified European oak and formaldehyde-free, these timber floors are as healthy as they are beautiful.

Both collections are rated E0, the lowest possible rating for formaldehyde emissions under international standards, and are coated in an innovative oxidative lacquer which is breathable and durable. All without any harsh chemicals. These flooring options present a future-forward, environmentally responsible choice, while ensuring the healthiest indoor air quality.

The Heritage Collection is rich with character. Each board is finished using an innovative circular sanding technique, which creates a soft, undulating surface. The result feels gently worn and welcoming. The feature-grade oak reveals the natural knots, grains and tonal shifts of the wood, celebrating rather than concealing its imperfections. Harking to the aged floorboards found in rustic farmhouses, the Heritage Collection brings a sense of lived-in charm.

Available in four earthy tones and two generous widths (250-millimetres and 300-millimetres), the Heritage Collection is cut to long lengths and a sturdy 19-millimetre thickness. The velvety finish, designed to be experienced barefoot, offers a quiet kind of luxury, combining the tactile appeal of handcrafted flooring with the performance of modern coatings.

In contrast, the Natural Collection takes a more contemporary approach. Developed in close collaboration with leading Australian architects and designers, this series is clean, calm and consistent. The boards are rigorously graded for uniformity, with minimal knots or visual variation. Consistent and refined, this creates a clean backdrop for creative expression. Described as a ‘quiet canvas,’ the collection works particularly well in design-led spaces where materials need to support, not compete with, other elements.

The Natural Collection is available in seven versatile colours, with boards up to 300-millimetres wide and 3000-millimetres long. The scale of the boards enhances spatial flow, making them ideal for open-plan environments where continuity and proportion matter.

What unites both collections, aside from their health and sustainability credentials, is Royal Oak Floors’ considered approach to quality. Every timber component is sourced from responsibly managed European forests, and the manufacturing process reflects a dedication to craftsmanship that is as thoughtful as it is precise.

“Royal Oak Floors is responsible for bringing engineered oak flooring to Australia. With over 20 years in the industry we helped to create, we bear the standard for craftsmanship, sustainability, and a commitment to supporting the best of Australian architecture and design,” Harper says.

For designers and homeowners seeking a material that quietly elevates a space while supporting healthier living, Royal Oak Floors offers a compelling proposition. The Heritage and Natural collections demonstrate that aesthetics, performance and sustainability needn’t be in opposition. Instead, they can be seamlessly integrated.
