Framing sustainable design with Capral’s Urban Comfort

As Australian homes adapt to meet stricter energy codes and increasingly varied climate conditions, building materials are under more scrutiny than ever. Capral’s new Urban Comfort range rises to the challenge, offering thermally broken aluminium windows and doors designed specifically for sustainable, high-performance residential living.

Designing for comfort and energy efficiency is no longer a nice to have in residential design, it’s a standard, and for good reason. As the built environment evolves in response to changing climate patterns and shifting homeowner priorities, materials and systems must keep pace. Capral’s Urban Comfort range of thermally broken aluminium windows and doors represents a significant step forward – offering a purpose-designed residential solution that performs across Australia’s broad climatic spectrum.

Engineered with thermal efficiency and durability front of mind, Urban Comfort redefines the role of aluminium framing in residential design. The range features an advanced polyamide thermal break – an insulating barrier that separates the interior and exterior sections of the aluminium frame. This crucial design feature dramatically reduces the transfer of heat and cold through the frame, working in tandem with double glazing to improve overall energy performance.

In Australia’s warmer regions, this means limiting solar heat gain and easing the load on cooling systems, while in cooler climates, it helps retain internal warmth and increase heating efficiency. Regardless of the location, Urban Comfort reduces condensation – a common concern for double-glazed windows with traditional frames – preserving the clarity of views and protecting internal finishes from moisture damage.

Designed and manufactured in Australia, Urban Comfort is tailored to meet the specific demands of local conditions. The range has been rigorously tested to comply with AS2047 standards for strength, weather resistance, and durability, ensuring reliable performance even in the most challenging environments. From the high humidity of the tropics to the crisp air of alpine zones, the Urban Comfort system responds with consistency and confidence.

Importantly, Capral’s Urban Comfort aligns with the latest updates to the National Construction Code (NCC 2022), supporting compliance with lower U-values and solar heat gain coefficient (SHGC) requirements. As homes across the country strive to meet six- and seven-star energy ratings, systems like Urban Comfort provide architects and builders with the tools to design generously glazed spaces without sacrificing thermal performance.

The range includes a variety of configurations to suit contemporary residential applications – including sliding and stacking doors, and awning windows. These products maintain Capral’s hallmark attention to detail: slim, clean profiles; robust construction; and seamless integration with screens and other systems. Glazing capacities of up to 28mm and compatibility with Capral’s Caprice hardware range offer flexibility and visual consistency across a project.

Beyond the frame, Capral’s commitment to sustainability is embedded in the product’s material selection. As the only ASI Certified Aluminium Extruder in Australia, Capral ensures that all Urban Comfort systems are manufactured using LocAl® Green – a lower-carbon aluminium option supplied as standard. This reduces the embodied carbon of each product and contributes to a more environmentally responsible building footprint.

With energy performance, aesthetics and responsible sourcing at its core, the Urban Comfort range signals a meaningful shift in how glazing can support the goals of contemporary Australian residential architecture. It offers a solution that is not only technically sound, but also attuned to the broader ambitions of sustainable design – where comfort, efficiency, and climate responsiveness work hand-in-hand.
