Kitchen & Bathroom Issue

Habitus 63 is arguably the most aspirational issue of the year with Kitchens & Bathrooms to dream about. Whether a family hub, an entertainer’s paradise or somewhere to grad a quick meal, how we live in and spend time in the kitchen is a very personal question that requires thought and an abundance of resources. Always the aspirational eye candy of design, we have some truly lovely kitchens from Greg Natale, YSG, Splinter Society, Sally Caroline and Studio Johnston. Bathrooms are just as important with Greg Natale, Studio Tate, YSG and Those Architects sharing some fabulous insights

Louis Poulsen revives Vilhelm Lauritzen’s design legacy with new lamps

Brand

Louis Poulsen

The lighting brand honours the Danish architect’s timeless design legacy with modern updates to his iconic VL 45 Radiohus lamps, blending functionality with quiet elegance.

Louis Poulsen’s latest offerings celebrate the timeless elegance of Vilhelm Lauritzen, a pioneer of Danish functionalism. Known for designing iconic modernist buildings and thoughtful lighting, Lauritzen’s philosophy of merging aesthetics with functionality is vividly reflected in the reimagined VL 45 Radiohus series.

The VL 45 Radiohus Pendant, originally crafted for the Danish Broadcasting Corporation’s Radiohuset in the late 1930s, remains a hallmark of refined simplicity. Its distinctive spherical form, combining precise task lighting with soft, diffused illumination, exemplifies Lauritzen’s approach to light as an atmospheric tool. This spring, the pendant will debut in two new colours – Pale Yellow and Amber – enhancing its versatility. These updates feature mouth-blown glass and untreated brass fittings, designed to patinate gracefully over time.

In a novel twist, Lauritzen’s design is also being introduced as the VL 45 Radiohus Portable Lamp. Designed for both indoor and outdoor use, this rain-resistant piece retains the pendant’s aesthetic while adding portability and modern dimming features. Its rechargeable battery offers five hours of light, and a leather strap transforms it into a mobile, multifunctional design element. Available in Opal White, Pale Rose and Pale Yellow, the portable lamp exemplifies Lauritzen’s dedication to creating functional yet visually appealing objects.

Lauritzen’s legacy is rooted in his belief that “there is no life without aesthetics,” a principle evident in his architectural works and lighting designs. His lamps, crafted with precision and sensitivity to light and shadow, have transcended time, becoming enduring symbols of Danish design. With these contemporary updates, Louis Poulsen ensures that Lauritzen’s vision continues to illuminate modern spaces with quiet luxury.
