The Life Outside Issue

Introducing the Life Outside issue of Habitus magazine. With life increasingly being absorbed into a digital space, there is never a more important moment to hold something tangible. In this context, the power of nature to have a physiological impact on our sense of wellbeing has never been more important. So how can we cultivate the benefits of the our natural environment in the most intimate of places – our homes? This was the question that helped to bring this issue of Habitus to life.

High-End Furniture, Designed And Made With Humility

Following a very warm reception from the international interior design market, boutique Australian furniture designer and maker, Beeline Design, has expanded its Ridge Collection.

Despite its high-end aesthetic and bold colour palette, the Ridge Collection of furniture by Beeline Design comes from humble beginnings. Each piece is inspired by the corrugated iron sheds that dot the landscape of rural Australia and hand-crafted by couple Adam Brislin and Lucy Grant in Preston, Melbourne, using sustainably sourced materials.

The home-grown furniture design duo first released the versatile Ridge Collection back in 2017, launching with the Ridge buffet, bed, side table, coffee table, stool, and bench. Proving popular with both private interior clients and commercial projects, the Ridge Collection quickly became an international best-seller for Beeline Design, inspiring its expansion; cue, the Ridge Dining Table and Ridge Console.

A much-anticipated inclusion to the collection, the Ridge Dining Table is a modern take on a classic round dining table. Taking its cues from the design of the existing pieces in the collection, the Ridge Dining Table is a scaled-up version of the Ridge Side Table. Simple though it sounds, Adam and Lucy have not compromised their attention to detail in creating the Ridge Side Table’s older sibling. This is evident in Ridge Dining Table’s thoughtful proportions and attention to materiality.

The development of the Ridge Console is another customer-inspired addition to the collection. Following repeated client requests, the Ridge Console sees the columns of the Ridge Bench seat elongated to provide an elegant statement piece, perfect for hallways and smaller interior spaces. True to Beeline Design’s contemporary aesthetic, timeless appeal, and mindful materiality, the new Ridge Collection pieces feature seamlessly formed faceted bases paired with marble or timber tops. All timbers are sustainably sourced from FSC certified suppliers and each piece is designed to minimise wastage.

Beeline Design’s expansion of the Ridge Collection is also a sign of great things to come for the boutique Australian furniture designer. Up next for Adam and Lucy is a move into a larger manufacturing space – complete with an on site showroom – in Thomastown further north of the CBD. Until then, Beeline Design’s furniture is available to view by appointment at the Preston workshop.
