Kitchen & Bathroom Issue

Habitus 63 is arguably the most aspirational issue of the year with Kitchens & Bathrooms to dream about. Whether a family hub, an entertainer’s paradise or somewhere to grad a quick meal, how we live in and spend time in the kitchen is a very personal question that requires thought and an abundance of resources. Always the aspirational eye candy of design, we have some truly lovely kitchens from Greg Natale, YSG, Splinter Society, Sally Caroline and Studio Johnston. Bathrooms are just as important with Greg Natale, Studio Tate, YSG and Those Architects sharing some fabulous insights

Transforming homes into Hollywood stars: Zita Agency is putting Australian architecture on the silver screen

Australia

The Australian agency is connecting the country’s most beautiful locations to local and international film and TV crews.

In the world of television and film, architecture has an important role to play, lending itself to the creation of sets that help to bring a script to life. From the Speyer’s The Ben Rose House in Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, to the Sheats–Goldstein Residence in The Big Lebowski, and the iconic Schaffer Residence in A Single Man, architecture has helped create detailed, layered backdrops that transform viewers into a whole new world.

While we have long associated film and tv to the fabled streets of Hollywood, Australia is quickly making a name for itself as a production team’s dream. With breathtaking vistas, diverse cultures, and a thriving design scene, our architectural and natural landscapes create an inspiring stage for local and global visionaries alike.

And yet, the promise of potential can create unexpected challenges for production teams, with so many undiscovered gems and locals-only knowledge stopping directors from uncovering all the country has to offer.

Architect: Renato D’Ettorre

Enter Zita Agency, a location scouting service that connects film and television crews with some of the country’s most spectacular locations. Founder Tara Davies recognised the untapped potential for greater Australian involvement in the enchanting world of film, and set up her agency to ease the complexities of finding locations, while also empowering property owners to showcase and capitalise on their spaces. Whether it’s a brutalist home nestled in the Byron Hinterland; a superyacht moored in the glistening Sydney Harbour; a sumptuous restaurant high in the Melbourne skyline; or even a sprawling warehouse in Adelaide’s wine region, Zita makes filming in Australia easier and more seamless than ever before.

Not just a go-to for filmmakers, Zita Agency also serves the other side of the coin, offering homeowners the perfect chance to tap into a new revenue stream and have their home featured on the silver screen. Part of the Zita service is also guidance and management of assets and asset owners, ensuring that not only will the magic in your building be uncovered, but the end-to-end experience is supportive and secure, with every step expertly explained, navigated, and optimised.

Once engaged with the agency, homes and assets have a portfolio created by the team, with photography and videography used to showcase the spaces and features available to shoot. Strictly confidential, the assets are only shared with verified teams, and Zita manages all introductions and communications to ensure every process is expertly managed. Commercial properties and occupied homes are all at play with Zita, and owners are also free to make updates and renovations to their assets.

From dramatic cliff faces, to endless stretches of ochre deserts, Australia’s natural beauty is a wonderland for filmmakers around the globe. But while its vastness can be a utopia for the creatively minded, it can also feel overwhelming and challenging, and matching creative direction with production timing and budget can verge on impossible. Zita Agency’s entry into the market helps to ease these pressures, with their growing database of architecturally-minded homes, buildings, and assets a dream for directors and producers. As more of the industry turns to Australia as a homebase, Zita is on hand to connect the country’s best buildings with visiting stars. Move over The Four Seasons, the next iconic backdrop is sure to be down under.
