The fine line between form and function

David Hicks

A considered new tapware collection distils David Hicks’ interior language into refined silhouettes and restrained finishes, produced in collaboration with carbon-neutral manufacturer Sussex Taps.

Tapware rarely takes centre stage in a room — but it can sometimes define it. Felix, the new collection by David Hicks in collaboration with Sussex Taps, approaches the category with restraint rather than flourish.

Positioned as a complete solution for residential and hotel interiors, Felix is built around proportion and clarity. Each piece is pared back so that silhouette and finish do the work, creating a subtle, sculptural presence suited to both contemporary and more traditional contexts.

“I wanted to make something beautiful and luxurious; but more than that, something that felt measured, justified, and truly versatile,” says Hicks. That emphasis on balance is evident in the detailing, where contrast is controlled rather than dramatic.

Two exclusive finish combinations anchor the collection: Brushed Oyster Nickel with polished chrome detailing and Brushed Smoke Gun Metal with gloss black accents. Both pairings introduce tonal depth without overwhelming surrounding materials — a practical consideration for designers working across varied palettes.

The collaboration also connects Hicks’ design language with Sussex’s manufacturing credentials. As the world’s only carbon neutral tapware manufacturer, Sussex brings an environmental dimension to the collection alongside its Australian-made production. Felix does not attempt to reinvent tapware. Instead, it refines it — focusing on proportion, finish and longevity. In interiors where cohesion matters, that kind of quiet consistency can be the difference between statement and staying power.
