Stormtech releases new narrow profile Wave Grate

Delivering all the benefits of the broader Wave Grate range, and combining effective water removal with unobtrusive style, the 65mm profile option also comes with the promise of design flexibility.

Stormtech, the company credited with the invention of the linear drain, has introduced a slimmer 65mm profile to its innovative Wave Grate range.

Promising even greater flexibility than existing options and suitable for integration with various flooring layouts, the new profile is intended for installation in premium architectural contexts; settings where designers are seeking drainage that is not just effective but visually unobtrusive.

Though narrower, the 65mm profile – which the company describes as a ‘smarter alternative’ to tile insert linear drains – delivers all the benefits of the previously released variations.

Unique wave design

As its name suggests, the genius of the system derives from its unique wave shape. While it hides the channel in the same way tile insert drainage does, the Wave Grate is lighter, easier to lift, and simpler to maintain.

At the same time the product, which recently was recently recognised with a Good Designer Award, loses nothing in terms of performance.

Thanks to custom machinery, extreme tooling, and significant levels of investment from Stormtech, Wave Grate includes an angled aperture with a simplified underside. A breakthrough design, the result is a drain that employs three methods – gravity, pressure, and surface tension – to achieve high water flow.

Importantly, Wave Grate maintains this effectiveness despite having only a narrow nominal gap between its ‘waves’. The added benefit here is that this makes it difficult for most debris to even make it through to the channel below. Combined with the product’s light weight, this helps ensure cleaning and maintenance are as simple as possible.

As is the case for the entire Wave Grate range, and indeed all Stormtech products, the new 65mm profile is designed with sustainability at front of mind. Manufactured locally in Australia using Capral’s LocAl Green ASI certified low-carbon aluminium, it represents a sound choice for designers (and homeowners) wanting to do their bit for the environment.

‘Beach Gold’ decorative finish

In releasing the new profile, Stormtech has also introduced “Beach Gold”. Evoking the warmth and luminosity of luxurious coastal living, this new decorative finish presents as a sophisticated, sun-kissed option that is perfectly suited to modern Australian homes.

On top of this, beyond its linear good looks, Wave Grate features a pleasing tactile feel. Thanks to its anodised surface, it delivers a soft feel even to bare feet.

In terms of applications, Stormtech recommends the 65mm Wave Grate for applications in which unobtrusiveness is key. This includes on thresholds between indoor and outdoor spaces, in bathrooms and wet areas, and on balconies or patios.

And it also includes around pools, adjacent to outdoor showers, and in various other settings where reliable drainage – and style – are required.
