Kitchen & Bathroom Issue

Kitchens and bathrooms are, arguably, the most consequential rooms in the home — and almost always the first to be considered. Whether approached through renovation or new build, their design has the power to recalibrate how a home is lived in and experienced. For this issue, our guest editor, Mardi Doherty, principal of Studio Doherty, explores what it truly means to transform these pivotal spaces — and why thoughtful design in kitchens and bathrooms delivers dividends far beyond the purely functional. Her insights both as an architect and as her own client give an open and honest account of the thinking behind creating a home.

The Long-Awaited Launch Of The Elvire Collection From Caroma

Last night Caroma officially launched the Elvire Collection designed by Luke Di Michiel to a room full of prominent architects, designers and end users. Habitus was proud to be there in support.

For more than two years the product and development team at Caroma, lead by industrial designer Luke Di Michiel, has been hard at work on a new, highly designed complete bathroomware collection designed for and with the architecture and design market – and design savvy consumers.

On Tuesday 17th September the team was able to celebrate the Elvire Collection’s official launch by way of an event held in their Sydney flagship showroom, Caroma on Collins, designed by Archier in 2018.

Habitus was honoured to be involved in the celebrations and in a room full of architects, designers, Design Hunters and design enthusiasts, editor Holly Cunneen (as a representative of Habitus and on behalf of Raj Nandan founder and CEO of Indesign Media) MC’d a Q+A between Luke, who shared key elements of the design thinking behind the collection, and Emmaline Cox, design director at Axolotl, who shared her insights behind the design of the capsule that her team had designed to present the new collection in the flagship space.

Guests enjoyed catering by Gastronomy and various Gin and Tonic options made with Forty Spotted Tasmanian Gin. A lucky few walked away with door prizes that ranged from a bottle of Forty Spotted Tasmanian Gin and an annual subscription to Habitus; a luxury bathroom pamper pack which included a Country Road towel set and Aesop gift pack; and the swansong: a Tasmanian Weekend away for two covering flights, accommodation, $500 spending money and a tour at Lark Distillery (the distillery for Forty Spotted Tasmanian Gin).
