From the outset, the home was approached as a sequence of experiences, spaces that feel calm, grounded and intuitive to move through. Set within a quiet residential street in Russell Lea, the home sits among established family residences. The clients were drawn to interiors that balanced refinement with comfort, spaces that felt elevated yet deeply liveable. A strong emphasis was placed on natural materials, layered texture and a sense of calm throughout the home.

What is the story of the clients and their brief?
The clients envisioned a home that felt warm, timeless and thoughtfully detailed. They were drawn to spaces that balanced beauty with practicality. While they loved the essence of Mediterranean design, the brief focused on interpreting it in a subtle, contemporary way, favouring enduring materials and softened references rather than overt stylistic cues.

What are the key material and structural choices?
In the kitchen, this intent revealed itself through a more expressive use of material. A coloured stone was chosen to bring warmth and personality, moving away from a purely neutral palette and allowing the space to feel layered and lived-in. Its natural veining and shifting tones create a gentle sense of movement, giving the kitchen depth and character that evolves with light throughout the day. Paired with warm timber joinery and understated detailing, the space feels inviting and grounded. The kitchen became a central point of connection, where natural stone introduces movement and character, while the surrounding joinery brings warmth and balance. It’s a space designed to be lived in daily yet still carries a quiet sense of occasion.
In the more intimate rooms, scale and atmosphere were carefully considered. The powder room, in particular, became a moment of pause. Sculptural stone, soft surfaces and gentle lighting coming together to create a sense of stillness within the home.

What key functional requirements does the design address?
The design prioritises everyday living, with improved circulation and integrated storage throughout. Each space was carefully planned to support the rhythms of family life. Materials were selected not only for their beauty, but for their durability and longevity, ensuring the home feels considered, calm and functional while accommodating the realities of daily living and shared moments together.

What are your favourite parts or moments in the design?
Our favourite moments are the quieter yet impactful ones – where material, light and proportion come together naturally. The kitchen sits at the heart of the home, warm and inviting, while the powder room offers a softer, more intimate experience.
Together, these spaces reflect a home designed to be lived in, not just admired. What we value most is how the design supports everyday living while remaining deeply considered. Each space feels intentional, calm and connected, a home shaped by longevity, craftsmanship and the quiet beauty found in thoughtful detail.
