The 'Bespoke' Issue

With Guest Editor Yasmine Ghoniem, we are launched headfirst into the world of unique and eclectic design. From architecture to interiors, there is nothing that can’t be enlivened with bespoke interventions. Granted, a stunningly beautiful home can be made by simply shopping for the best, but when the artist’s hand is introduced, some pure magic is possible. Whether it is an artwork or a new upholstery, a built-in component or a mosaic inlay, these gestures, whether bold or subtle, are what make the home unique.

2025 Habitus House of the Year x Winnings: Your complete awards night preview

26 homes, one remarkable jury, four awards. Here’s everything to know before the winners of Habitus House of the Year 2025 are announced on 4th December at Winnings Redfern.

The countdown is on. This Thursday, 4th of December, the architecture and design community will gather at the Winnings’ Redfern showroom for the Habitus x Winnings House of the Year 2025 Awards Night. This year’s program is proudly supported by Winnings as Major Partner, with Rogerseller and Billi joining as Supporting Partners as well as a number of Design Hunter prize partners. Before the celebrations begin, let’s take a moment to look back over the full program: the shortlist, the jury and the awards that will soon crown this year’s standout residential design.

Over the past month, we revealed the complete shortlist of 26 homes, released across four drops. Together they form a richly varied snapshot of residential architecture across Australia, Aotearoa / New Zealand, India, Japan and Indonesia — from coastal retreats and city terraces to experimental structures that test the limits of material and site.

We also introduced the 2025 jury, a panel of leading architects, designers, thinkers and editors whose collective expertise spans disciplines, geographies and design philosophies. This year’s jury comprises Albert Mo, Ali Whelan, Amelia Borg, Ben Peake, Bradley Kerr, Brahman Perera, Gillian Serisier, Jean Graham, Lachlan Seegers, Mardi Doherty, Mark Austin, Phillip Withers, Sally Knibbs, Timothy Alouani-Roby and Tim Jackson. Ahead of awards night, the jury come together for a full day of discussion and deliberation to select the project that best embodies the ambition and spirit of Habitus House of the Year.

 • Winnings Award for Emerging Talent

 • People’s Choice Award

People’s Choice voting opened on 15th October, and the response from readers across the region has been extraordinary.

We’ll be sharing the winners live from the event — follow @habitusliving on Instagram for all announcements, highlights and behind-the-scenes moments. The 2024 awards were held in Melbourne, with around 600 guests in attendance.
